Supporting Students Over Winter Break
Winter break can be a stressful time for students for various reasons. Support them in reducing anxiety and feeling cared for during break so they return to your classroom ready to achieve their goals.
Tip of the Month
When discussing goals for studying for finals or setting New Year’s resolutions, help students make SMART goals.
SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely.
Having goals that are specific and measurable helps students decipher when goals have been met. Goals should be small enough in scope that they are feasible, and should be aligned with a value or an issue that students want to address. Goals should also be appropriate for the time in the student’s life (e.g., when recovering from a sports injury, “getting strong” might not be timely)
